Rice-ing Above: Lundberg’s Commitment to Sustainable Farming

Lundberg Family Farm HQ in Richvale, California.

Lundberg Family Farms, the first U.S. farm to produce and market organic rice, has been committed to sustainable farming from the start. What began as a small family farm in Northern California has grown into a leader in organic agriculture, with a mission to provide high-quality products while protecting the environment.

“At Lundberg, we’re committed to leaving the land better than we found it,” says Jack Beckman, Crop and Soil Health Coordinator (PCA). This philosophy guides their every move, from innovative farming techniques to long-term sustainability efforts. Lundberg’s achievements go beyond organic— they’re the first U.S.-grown rice brand to become Regenerative Organic Certified(R) (ROC), which uses USDA Organic as a baseline and adds important criteria for soil health, animal welfare, and social fairness. “Achieving ROC means we’re focused on ensuring the land remains healthy for generations to come,” Jack adds.

Lundberg continually monitors and improves soil health through advanced testing and organic amendments, ensuring soil fertility and productivity. Water management and farming techniques are optimized to minimize environmental impact, ensuring responsible land stewardship.

A key component of their strategy is precision agriculture, supported by Veris Technologies. By using the Veris U3000 soil mapping platform, Lundberg gathers detailed, scientifically validated data on soil conditions. This approach allows them to apply nutrients where they’re needed most, using variable-rate fertilizer applications that benefit both the land and the bottom line.

"Veris technology helps us make informed decisions, so we can give each part of the field exactly what it needs," says Jack. With Veris’s tools, Lundberg can fine-tune their farming practices, improving both productivity and sustainability.

Tyler Lund, VP of Business Development at Veris, sums it up: "If we can measure better, we can manage better. The Veris U3000 platform helps farmers make smarter, more sustainable decisions that benefit both their operation and the environment."

By blending their deep-rooted passion for organic farming with cutting-edge precision agriculture technology, Lundberg Family Farms is doing more than just growing rice—they’re protecting the resources that make it possible. Their partnership with Veris Technologies showcases how innovation can play a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of organic farming so farmers can manage land responsibly for today and tomorrow.
